The Laws
"You shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and shall show them the way in which they must walk" (Exodus 18:20). Within the Law of Moses there were specific laws, or instructions, for the children of Israel. They revealed God's will about certain people and situations that Israel would not otherwise have known. The Hebrew word torah, used for the whole of the five books of Moses, comes from a root meaning to teach, or to throw or shoot an arrow. It describes instruction that shows a person the mark to aim for. In the same way, Yahweh's laws helped Israel learn what mark He wanted them to aim for in many areas of life. Studying them still teaches us about God's intentions. This category is part of The Law of Moses, alongside the Ten Words, appointments, commandments, ordinances, statutes and the Sanctuary.
