Envy
"You shall not covet your neighbor's house... nor anything that is your neighbor's" (Exodus 20:17). Envy, or covetousness, is the last of the sins named in the Ten Words. Unlike most of the other commandments, it speaks to what happens inside us before any outward act: the desire for what belongs to someone else. Paul lists sins "contrary to the sound doctrine" in 1 Timothy 1:10, and the Ten Words show that God cares about our hearts as well as our actions. This category is part of the series on the Ten Words, which looks at each of the ten sins Yahweh declared in His covenant with Israel through Moses. No separate articles have been posted here yet, so this page introduces the theme through the commandment itself. To go further, explore the other categories under The Ten Words, such as Theft and Lying, and the broader teaching on The Law of Moses. Each one shows a little more of what Yahweh desires for His people and why.
