Lying
"You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor" (Exodus 20:16). Lying and false swearing are among the sins named in the Ten Words that Yahweh gave to Moses on the mountain. Paul lists "liars" and "perjurers" among those whose ways are "contrary to the sound doctrine" (1 Timothy 1:10). Truth matters to God because He is true, and a lie damages both our neighbor and our walk with Him. This category is part of the series on the Ten Words, which looks at each of the ten sins Yahweh declared in His covenant with Israel and what they reveal about Him. No separate articles have been posted here yet, so this page introduces the theme through the commandment itself and Paul's words. To go further, explore the other categories under The Ten Words, such as Theft and Envy, and the broader teaching on The Law of Moses. Each one helps us see more of what God desires for His people and how He leads us to live in the truth.
