The teaching of the heart in the scriptures holds much truth, and in many ways, is the foundation for the relationship between man and Yahweh, and the source of life.
Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. (Proverbs 4:23)
Because all of creation in some way glorifies God, by revealing His power or describing His nature, we can also learn more of God through understanding the concept of the heart.
Looking back to ancient Hebrew and knowing that the letters themselves were pictures of something and represented a basic idea, we can gather the deeper meaning of "heart" in Hebrew.
It is made of two letters, לב.
The first, ל, is a picture of a tent and means "family, house, inner dwelling."
The second, ב, is a picture of a shepherd's staff and means "teach, yoke, direct."
Therefore, the deeper meaning from the Hebrew language reveals the heart as the inner dwelling of being taught or taking direction. This explains why it is so important to both our daily lives and our eternity.
The Heart of Yahweh, including of Christ, is referred to many times throughout the Bible, and holds one key to discerning Him more.
The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings out that which is evil, for out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks. (Luke 6:45)
